Simeon Centre Counselling Service

Our Mission: To promote positive mental health by providing a safe and confidential counselling service.

Our History

The Simeon Centre Counselling Service opened in 1999 as a small charity connected to the Victoria Hall and Bolton Methodist Mission as a support service for its parishioners.

The Simeon Centre soon expanded its counselling service, which took it further away from being centred around the local church congregation and into the wider local community.

In 2008, the Simeon Centre disconnected from Bolton Methodist Mission and became its own separate entity – although we still have Trustees on our Board from Bolton Methodist Mission.

Our Development

The Simeon Centre was initially a member of the Bolton Counselling Alliance, which was made up of multiple small charities in and around the town.

In 2012, alongside Beacon and Relate, the Simeon Centre founded a Community Benefit Society called 1-Point in aid of creating a more effective mental health support network.

Since then, the Simeon Centre has expanded significantly to become the largest counselling charity in Bolton and is proud to have supported thousands of people since our inception.

The Service We Provide

We offer one-to-one counselling for clients over the age of sixteen, free at the point of need.

While we predominantly offer face-to-face counselling, we also have therapists who see clients over the phone and over Microsoft Teams.

The 1-Point Network is commissioned by the Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust to provide up to six funded counselling sessions per client.

At Simeon Centre, we believe that clients need more time to be able to reflect with the support of a counsellor, and so we offer each client up to ten, fifty-minute sessions.
